Help on using the Poster & Flyer app

The basic concept of using Poster & Flyer is simple: select a poster template from the Gallery, modify the text or image in the WYSIWYG designer, and then print it. This is illustrated in the video below:

Overview

Besides launching a poster from the gallery, you can also choose to create a blank poster by tapping the Create New button.

The size of the poster launched or created is dependent on the Paper Size setting shown below. The size can be changed by tapping the Paper Size button.

Tip: The "Export Images" button in the App Bar of the Gallery page allows you to export the images (over 50 high definition scenery images) used in the poster templates. You may freely modify and use these images as backgrounds in your posters. Please note this feature is only available in the purchased version of the app. Create objects and changing its properties Once a poster template is selected in the Gallery, it will be opened and launched in the WYSIWYG designer as shown below:

You can create new objects by selecting an object in the toolbar at the bottom of the app and then dragging your finger on the poster. Double tapping on an object will display the properties flyout of the object. This flyout allows you to change the color, stroke, text, fill or other properties of the object selected.

You may also select an object and then tap on the Properties button shown below to launch the Properties flyout.

If multiple objects are selected when the Properties button is tapped, a flyout with the common properties will be displayed.

Changing Poster Size and Background

Tapping on the Properties button when no objects are selected will launch the flyout that displays the properties of the page/poster. This flyout allows you to change the size and background of the poster.

Page and Poster Size

The dimensions of the poster can be changed in the flyout shown above. You may have noticed that dimensions are defined for both the Page and the Poster. The app made a differentiation between these two for flexibility reasons. For most cases, you will have only one poster on one page where the page and poster dimensions are the same. However in some circumstances, you may want to setup multiple posters, for example two posters on a single page. This may occur due to some special paper media or label stock that you have purchased over the shelf. The WYSIWYG designer allows you to draw or design a poster and will automatically replicate your design to other posters on the same page.

If you are interested in creating a page with multiple labels, you can check out our free Barcode & Label app.

Poster Background

You can tap on the Customize Background button to change the background of the Poster. Currently, to setup the background on the whole poster, you can either choose a color from the palette, customize a gradient, or select an image.

Display and Snap to Grid

The WYSIWYG poster designer can be configured to display a Grid that objects will automatically align and snap onto. This behavior can be enabled by tapping the Settings button (bottom menu) shown below. The Settings flyout also allows you to import custom fonts to use with Poster & Flyer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I send my poster to a local print shop for printing or to a colleague for review?

Poster & Flyer supports printing of a poster to a PNG image or a Microsoft XPS document. The PNG image or XPS document can be easily sent to your print shop for printing or a colleague for reviewing.

  • PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. To save a poster as an image, click on the following button in the Preview screen.

  • XPS (Open XML Paper Specification) is a paginated fixed-layout format by Microsoft that retains the look and feel of your electronic documents. XPS can be printed on almost all Windows based machines. To save a poster as a XPS document, click on the "Print" button in the Preview screen and select "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" as shown below.

If you require PDF (Portable Document Format), you can easily install a free Virtual PDF Printer Driver on your Windows from the internet and then print your poster to the virtual printer.

Note - Printing is only supported in the Full version of Poster & Flyer.

A Text/Symbol Object with an "Image Fill style" does not appear when printed to Windows 10 PDF/XPS virtual printer.

This appears to be a bug of the Windows 10 PDF/XPS Virtual printer engine. This issue will not occur when printing the Poster/Scrapbook to a desktop printer or other PDF virtual printers. We have contacted Microsoft to highlight the issue and hope to reach a resolution on the issue as soon as possible.
